Last summer, I took a more or less calculated risk. I left my wonderful, full-time job (at GOOD, as a matter of fact) and went back to graduate school. This was a change, to say the least. Especially given that I had been in the working world for several years. And was moving from my home in sunny Los Angeles to Edinburgh, Scotland, which is sort of like going to serve in the Night’s Watch. And was going back for computer science after studying philosophy and working as a writer. I changed just about everything at once. Even my cash flow reversed!

Unless there’s no doubt whatsoever that you are doing exactly what you were put on this earth to do (maybe you’re Lionel Messi, or, you know, the Lionel Messi of accounting or whatever) you’ve probably wondered what it would be like to switch gears and go explore that other thing you were always interested in. Well, I did it, and I’m here to report back.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - The Thunder Blotch couch above, is by far my favorite piece of furnishing right now.

I’m drooling over this couch…i desire this couch to unsafe limits.

If I owned this couch, I’d cancel my nightly outings, grab a glass of wine and just sit across from this masterpiece and think about ‘what a lucky girl’ I was TO OWN IT.

THE COUCH HOWEVER DOES NOT FEEL THE SAME ABOUT ME. IT IS AS IT LOOKS…INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE, BEING A MESH BETWEEN TIMOROUS BEASTIES AND THE FURNITURE COMPANY, ERCOL. THEN MY HEART TOOK A SWAN DIVE WHEN I SAW HOW MUCH JUST THE TEXTILE ITSELF COST. BUT I CAN’T STOP THE DREAM - CHECK OUT TIMOROUS BEASTIES OTHER TEXTILES HERE FOR A DROOL SESSION OF YOUR OWN.

This remarkable chandelier from Hilden & Diaz projects a 360° shadow of trees and roots onto the walls surrounding it. Titled Forms in Nature the light was partly inspired by the drawings of Ernst Haeckel, the German biologist, naturalist, and philosopher (among other things) who is perhaps most famous for discovering thousands of new animal species and mapping them to a genealogical “tree of life”.
